      Pros

      Smart, hard-working, passionate co-workers. Dependable infrastructure (WiFi, conference call facilities, decent laptop hardware and IT support), mobile phone and plan included, Mature business systems, strong support groups (this is not a startup, they have systems in place). No. 1 in semiconductor equipment industry.

      Cons

      Layoffs, shutdowns are commonplace. Some inexplicable personnel decisions by management but that is typical in the Valley. Politics exist, like most places. Meager yearly raises. In 2013 re-formulated compensation to reward Directors & higher at the expense of lower grades. Mature & established industry so don't expect wealth-inducing company growth.

      Pros

      Bonus could be profitable. Lots of smart colleagues. Fast paced and always on the leading edge of technology. Good place to discuss and try out ideas.

      Cons

      Frequent layoffs hurt morale. There was always talk about stabilizing the hiring and layoffs, but there was never a solid plan to make that happen. Santa Clara not the best location. The customers, e.g. Intel, TSMC, Globalfoundries are so far away.
