Pros

AOI offers plenty of challenges and opportunities for those who are ambitious and not afraid to put in the effort and hours to get things done. As the company is located in Houston, it cannot compare with the oil/gas or medical industry as to its benefits and compensation, but it offers good healthcare/401k matching and a pretty good vacation package. Most of the people at the company are relaxed, friendly and it is a place where friendship could be built without rigid formality.

Cons

The company does not have the most flexible work structure. You must adhere to a rigid work schedule. It does have certain office politics and promotions or development does require one to build relationship, but as this is pretty much the norm at any larger corporation. Certain positions may be filled with staffs who may not be the most qualified from a technical standpoint. Company tend to reward employees for their loyalty and seniority rather than strictly on performance.

Pros

Friendly and hard-working co-workers.

Cons

Biased opinions and discrimination based on cultural background, gender and age are publicly displayed. Female workers have to face sexism from managers. Equal employment opportunity is not truly practiced. Managers are working hard to introduce the Asian “Foxconn” culture into the company. Employees for all job-functions are paid much lower than industry standard. However, they are still “suggested” to work over-time. Employees are always micromanaged and watched over. This method does not favor a positive work environment and loyalty to the company, which explains the high turnover rate. Managers uses the fear factor to improve company performance and put little to no trust in their employees even when their employees are highly qualified and motivated. The company relies on the ongoing availability of desperate international PhD students who need sponsorship. Experienced employees are under-appreciated and not respected. Employee's 401K plan does not exist now because the CEO senses the company's unfavorable performance and wants the employees to pay for it.

Pros

This place is good for Chinese. Majority of the employee is Chinese and there are many cases that Chinese is used during meeting.

Cons

Not much to learn from seniors. All manual process since management does not invest in automating the process.
