Employee hostile, very stressful company

Pros

Get to learn new technologies without any training

Cons

If you are a good programmer they dump more work, more work and promise their clients that is impossible, want their employees to work 100 hours a week. Lots of discrimination and the management is thick skinned. Only whites are promoted.

Pros

Small company with ample opportunity for individuals who like to learn. All employees wear many hats. Anyone who expresses an interest may choose to be involved in the software development cycle, the sales cycle, web page development, qa, database design and network administration.

Cons

There is no room for advancement. The company has not grown significantly in the last five years. Sales staff is pushed to sell products that are not completely developed. Once a sale is made, project managers are pushed to deliver with limited prgramming and qa resources. The work atmosphere is cyclical, with several weeks of constant crisis - during which nearly everyone works into the night and through the weekend - followed by a few weeks of relative calm. These are symptoms of an organization that is understaffed and there does not appear to be any will to correct this.

Upper management is terrible

Pros

-They take you to the movies sometimes -Devops process was okay while I was there. I doubt that is still the case today. -A good portion of the people (but not all) try hard to make things work and help each other. -It's a great place to learn what you DON'T want from a company -It's a smaller company so you can wear multiple hats. Which is good career experience for when you decide to leave.

Cons

-Upper management is more concerned about making a quick buck rather than building a product or company for that matter that can last. -Developers come and go so fast that it's hard to believe any progress can be made. The mess pile is pushed onto the new people until they've had enough and leave. -Features of a product are promised to the customer and a deadline is set before any technical discussion has been made. -Working after hours is expected and not rewarded at all. -A lot of the hard work you do will be irrelevant within weeks due to change requests.
