Great company within the industry

Pros

Very flexible work environment (can work from home, work from other offices, hours are generally flexible), great local community within the office, no local profit centers thus work sharing across offices is encouraged.

Cons

The company is adjusting to the continually shifting engineering consulting industry. As the environmental industry has struggled to rebound since 2008, the company has undergone restructuring within the US (where the environment business line has previously been dominant), which has isolated employees from the upper management. Most employees would agree that their local teams are great, but cost-savings maneuvers (bonus reductions, overhead cuts, office closures) required to remain competitive have resulted in some general feeling that the company isn't "paying attention" to it's employees. In my opinion, it's more due to company size and the shifting industry than malicious intent on behalf of management as some current and former employees seem to think. The primary negative is that Arcadis is a company with a goal for growth despite continued growing pains from previous acquisitions and decreasing margins from previously profitable market sectors.

Pros

Lots of different types of work available. Lots of friendly, intelligent people to work with. Decent benefits. Flexible schedule and ability to work from home (if the Arcadis IT -- VPN, Citrix, etc -- isn't completely useless at the time).

Cons

Terrible communication between operations staff and upper management. Pockets of expertise littered across the country with no way to find or utilize that expertise. Miserable (terrible performance, stability, accountability) IT infrastructure. Large wins are credited to project managers with no acknowledgement of the staff that actually completed the work. Company makes a show of listening to the opinions of all employees but very little evidence that any action is taken as a result. Executive staff appears at times to be completely unfamiliar with what the company even does. Salaries are not terribly competitive.

Pros

If you like to kiss rear ends then there are growth opportunities for inner circle members only

Cons

-I can't believe we were recognized as 'best places to work?' What a joke! -"Good old boy" management club (inner circle). -Little to no promotions or raises to those not in the inner circle -Company does nothing to help employees stay billable -If you are not fully billable, expected to use PTO or leave without pay even if you are salaried.
