Pros

Some clearly excellent faculty and dedicated staff work at ASU. The graduate student population is excellent and rewarding to work with.

Cons

The overpaid and oversized administration is disenfranchising to faculty on their best days and utterly demoralizing on their worst. Some small growth in capacity for building faculty collaboration have occurred but are managed by marginally capable administrators in tempe and the other campuses are sweat shops with libraries given their distillation to the lowest common denominator of using hourly undergraduate workers paid to help online classes scale up.

Pros

The colleagues. Most are really good and helpful. It's a very interdisciplinary environment.

Cons

The administration. They seem to waste a lot of resources on a few flagship initiatives, while completely ignoring the other departments. When an upper administrator messes up, he gets "promoted" to some silly job while retaining pay. There's complete chaos on who's in charge of what, since it seems to change every day (at President Crow's whim). Salary and retention in general. Once in, there's no possibility for growth other than leaving.

Pros

Great benefits with the state system retirement program and the tuition benefit was a plus. I was going to enroll into a Masters program but I quit.

Cons

The salary is not up to par as bigger corporation but the benefits is great. The job functions for the position is senile. It has nothing to do with the title and you are micromanaged at all times of the day. Even though you are an exempt employee with a salary wage, they want to tell you when to go to lunch and want to know where you have been if you are not at your desk. Also, why do we have to pay for parking 2 miles away?
