Pros

They offer 12 weeks parental leave

Cons

So you're not legible for retirement benefits until after the first year, but you have to sign up for them in the first 30 days or some time frame along those lines. If your not planning on staying in Arizona your whole career the pension doesn't make much sense. They really f-cked my wife over by defaulting her into the pension system. Since she didn't get benefits for a year, she thought she could wait to look into the benefits, and decide the next year. Big surprise when she wanted to opt for the contribution match.

Pros

Easy to pass off work you don’t want to student workers

Cons

Pay is far below market value. No room for creativity within “the brand.”

Pros

Students are eager, mostly appreciative, and work hard. Colleagues are wonderfully supportive and great collaborators. Campus is beautiful.

Cons

Too few staff on the administrative side. Mistakes occur when managing grants. Expectations for research productivity (grants, papers) are unreasonable given the fairly high teaching load, extremely service appointments, and nearly nonexistent financial support for graduate students (e.g. no teaching assistantships). Lots of turnover results in increased workload, sometimes unexpectedly, for those remaining. The vision as handed down from upper management is not aligned with some programs valued by students or with some faculty expertises and creates confusion and conflict.
