      Pros

      A very patriotic and noble profession, with a dual mission of defending the commonwealth and our nation. Good training, pay and benefits for a part-time job.

      Cons

      Leadership is very biased and inconsistent, and at times, incompetent. Recognition, reward and promotion is based primarily on who you know, not performance.

      Pros

      The guard really is what you make of it. Lots of travel and classes to take if you desire to do so. The more active you are in it the better your career will grow.

      Cons

      It's best if you were active duty first. And unfortunately people do come and go at all levels. The command structure and do workers you have this year may be totally different next year.
