Pros
- Good leadership among middle management - Strong company reputation in key disciplines - Opportunities to advance or move within organization - Maybe just my luck, but I worked with some amazing people - If you start your career here, you inevitably make connections with people who go on to other publishing companies, which can help your future career prospects
Cons
- Strategic direction was lacking. There were a lot of "big picture" initiatives that were designed to help us redefine ourselves in the marketplace. A lot of these projects failed to get off the ground, or worse, were heavily invested in and then dismantled halfway through. - Compensation and raises were less than stellar for the industry - Not much departmental infrastructure to allow for promotions. You had to wait years for at title change.
