Pros

Good pay and good benefits

Cons

Management is horrible. They do not value you nor do they appreciate your hard work or anything. There is a lot of dumb people in management positions that do not have common sense. They do not give good work/life balance they expect you to not have a life outside of work and be there 100% of your time and if you do not come in when your off or do OT when they ask than you are frowned upon.

Pros

Flexibility, some great people to work with. I am proud of the job I do so in spite of the long hours I am happy that I have made a difference in my time with Ascend.

Cons

I came to Ascend because of the values and the people, I understand that change is a constant but wish that those running the company would remember where we came from and hold on to the values with a little more vigor. I didn't used to mind so much working long hours as the supervisor I reported to rewarded me with good annual increases and bonuses as well as acknowledging jobs well done. Now the excuse is standard increase percentage across the board regardless of your effort and contributions, especially if you are not a member of a department that produces income for Ascend. 80% of the Shared Services group are taken for granted. The longer you work for Ascend the less visible you become. Just come in and do your job- don't voice your opinion. Now I am wondering why I am still there. PTO plan is great if you can take it. That's another problem, no time to take a vacation with no backup for your position.

Running in circles

Pros

Good PTO policy (unlimited, take-as-needed vacation). Decent pay. Flexible schedules.

Cons

Where do I start? Turnover is very high. Some teams are horribly understaffed, causing delays in basic things like getting a server set up. Employees are expected to work at all hours - very late night deployments, or incidents that go on for hours. Scheduled deployments practically require an act of God to get approved. There's both too much process (red tape) and not enough process (no consistency) across the company. Upper management gives lip service to the company values but ignores/avoids uncomfortable discussions about things like layoffs. Every year a bunch of employees quit right after bonuses are given out. Turnover is even high at management level, and "reorganization" happens frequently. There's no trust here.
