Pros

Decent wages and average benefits for this company. Helpful co-workers with years of experience, knowledge and dedicated to their jobs.

Cons

HR Dept rules by Intimidation, Harassment and Bullying techniques to cover up the lack of knowledge on how to handle day-to-day answers. Employees should be able to go the HR Dept with confidence that their issues are held in the utmost confidential manner. NOT IN THIS DEPARTMENT.

Feedback on the HR team is important to me as I have responsibility for this team. I would welcome the opportunity to talk with you about your experience if you are comfortable reaching out. My direct contact information is moneal@ascendmaterials.com and 713-315-5795 office/direct. Understandably, you might feel more comfortable talking with someone outside of HR; in that case I have every confidence that any of the leaders in Decatur are open to hearing your concerns directly. All the best - Malcolm

Pros

I enjoyed working with most of my co-workers. For the most part they were very helpful.

Cons

Upper management doesn't seem to care about how long you work (which for most salaried employees was upwards of 50 hours a week every week) Understaffed Overworked employees They lost 7 of their 8 core management team on site over a course of about 2 years due to terrible upper management (on-site management wasn't bad.)

Pros

At the Decatur site I have found the people to be supportive and friendly. Engineers and support staff do a great job of responding to requests quickly and not building a backlog of important tasks. Managers do a good job of avoiding overloading their engineers or having unreasonable expectations. Ascend offers much more vacation time than other employers do for entry level engineers. I work a forty hour week and then I get to go home, you can't underestimate that value to your life outside of work!

Cons

As a growing company, there are still plenty of reminders of Solutia, the company Ascend bought out. Also since it isn't a well established company yet there are always concerns that your job is not stable, but the management are usually optimistic and reassuring.
