A great place to get taken advantage of

Pros

Some great co-workers, especially below management level.

Cons

I agree with most of the negative comments I've seen here. It's not fun working here. The values are all talk. The performance evaluation criteria is garbage. Raises are absolutely horrible. The bonus is a carrot on a stick. They always give you extra work pretending like it will get you promoted. Managers pretend to care about their people but they are mostly snakes. If you are a talented and smart person, then do not come here. This is not the kind of place you make a career at. I don't see many men promoted either.

Pros

The people at Ascend are absolutely fantastic. Most people would be willing to go out of their way to help you. There have also been efforts to improve the safety culture at the plant. The salary is decently competitive enough for the area and the benefits seems to be roughly at or slightly below industry standard (mostly because of no 9/80s). It is a rather fair compensation package.

Cons

Take the reviews with a grain of salt as negative reviews seem to be trimmed or all together removed. The safety culture is very poor with a habit of finger-pointing for process safety incidents. There is a general atmosphere of high stress and uncertainty due to a recent reorganization. A fair amount of employees have left recently, either willingly or not. There is very little communication about why certain long-term employees suddenly had empty offices at the end of the day. No alternative work schedules available for engineers. The Technical Career Path also progresses very slowly and encourages people to leave to advance their career.

Pros

Get to work with some good people that just want to make a good living and provide for their family.

Cons

Management always wants to change things. They don't care how hard they push their employees or their equipment. One day they're going to really mess up,but they'll just do their dumb investigation and blame on operator error or maintenance didn't do something right.
