Pros

There isn’t a lot of great stuff I can say about the company. I worked with some great people on an individual level, but Associated left me with a bitter taste in my mouth.

Cons

In the four years since I’ve been there and left, Associated has closed down over 25 of their previously locally-owned branches and chopped a lot of heads. Your job is never, ever safe with Associated until you’ve broken upper middle management status. When things go wrong, the company’s policy is generally to find a way to blame ground level employees first and try to actually resolve issues later. I also dealt with a number of managers who were straight up invasive about personal things going on in my life, so far as to blast an email to my district detailing the horrific death of my father to covid and that my entire family had gotten it but me. This was done in order to draw attention to me and raise funds for my family. While the gesture was on some level, probably well intentioned, it felt extremely icky to have my personal information and trauma blasted to literally thousands of people who could now identify me by name (and did) and the Dead Dad Girl. The attention I received from coworkers after this eventually drove me to quit. I also never saw a raise or a bonus in 3 years.

Pros

Management in Madison area is supportive, team focused, lead by example, and takes feedback seriously. Colleague Resource Groups are encouraged. Leadership is committed to helping grow careers. Madison is definitely support of diversity and encourages colleagues to be themselves. Colleagues themselves are friendly, willing to help, and respectful. Training for branch positions is fairly detailed with mentorships to get supportive training environments. HR is easily accessible for questions, and when bringing up pay discrepancies will work to find a solution in effort to retain talent.

Cons

Pay is middle of the road for similar jobs in the market, onboarding colleagues tend to make more than experienced tenured colleagues. Company assumes benefits are better than they are. (It's slightly better than don't get sick insurance.) Salary employees given "Unlimited PTO" , which studies have shown that less PTO is taken by the average employee. Salary employees are encouraged to put work apps on personal devices with no compensation therefore blurring work/personal boundaries. Work-life balance is stressful as most areas are ran on minimum people, so a call out can bring the team into survival mode. Inconsistencies across markets for training among branch employees, which leads to potential compliance issues and complaints from clients.

Lack of follow through

Pros

Nice building, responsive internal teams, great in person training/onboarding for branch banking roles (until you get to management)

Cons

Worker rights violations, no lunch breaks, poor pay, when asking about resources to move into other positions in company hit with a brick wall of "we need you where you are" promised raises months ago with a deadline date then they didn't follow through and only gave an excuse when I pressed about it. Excuse given wasn't valid
