Solid company but slow to change

Pros

The company is well-respected and has thousands of talented people working for it. But over the last 10 years or so, it has been slow to adapt to new media and the effectiveness of social media and mobile apps. Salaries are very fair. The work is exciting and so is travel associated with it.

Cons

The company has been slow to adapt to changing times. Very stuck in its ways. Stories on the app are way too long. They need a much shorter word count. Also, while the guild has some benefits it has allowed many workers who are past their prime to continue as dead weight. The guild protects lazy and less productive workers. Management is often powerless in weeding out less productive and non-adaptive workers.

Chance to excel and move within the organization if you network correctly.

Cons

Micro-rmanagment. They expect you to be there rain, sleet, blizzards and other natural disasters.

Pros

Purity of mission: global structure and reach allows journalism to be conducted with little concern for local or regional business and political influence.

Cons

Management is a nest of entrenched interests and connected folks. For every smart person at the top, you'll deal with three who bring nothing to the table. This fosters a mentality where MANY confuse their position for actual talent and smarts. New York also bigfoots the show, often in needlessly careless ways.
