Great legacy, no vision

Pros

You write the first draft of history

Cons

You work for frustratingly incompetent bosses who can't see the big picture or if they do, they don't share their greater vision with the underlings.

An old company run by old people...

Pros

A great pedigree and history do lend a certain weight to business opportunities and conversations. The benefits are awesome and if you can find the right corner to work in, the environment is very laidback and casual.

Cons

The company as a whole has no clue how to adapt to the changing climate of news. The board and executives are constantly behind the times in changing to meet the needs of today's news organizations. They have no idea how to manage or run any of their more technical or software-related divisions.

Pros

Fast paced working environment, the people are great to work with (well, most of them), Good pay and cutting edge technology. Good vacation time, personal time and birthday days off, 401K matching is decent.

Cons

For a news agency, internal/departmental communication is lacking. Long work hours and most times is a thankless position to be in. Promotion from within is practically non-existent. Health benefits are poor; minimal at best (pay a lot for little return). You'll get worked to death with very little payback. When done, you'll be thrown away without being given a second thought. WAY too many cooks in the kitchen.
