Pros

My peers. 401k match. Relatively low health premiums.

Cons

I started with AmerUs and it was 180 degrees after Athene bought Aviva. It is very paternalistic with topdown management. Do not expect collaboration or idea generation - you are told what to do. They frowned upon working remotely, yet 80% of the c-suite flew home to the coasts on the weekend. Many employees worked very long hours to go public and were awarded a t-shirt. There waszero transparency with salaries and positions and no objectivity in getting raises. Your merit is on a department bell curve...meaning they compare Bob who's doing job A to Sally doing job B, rather than you doing your own job. They intentionally do not tell you your salary range and do not have job descriptions available. If you have a huge ego, white, male, play golf, and above age 50, you'll fit right in. I felt like we warped back to the 1950s.

Pros

Beautiful building and café. Decent pay and benefits.

Cons

IT department is horrendous. A bunch of bad mouth long term employees trying to show of their worth to save their own jobs. They follow unethical business practices and use unruly and offensive communication to the newer developers. Management completely relies on these people to make any decision. More than 90% of IT staff/ developers are frustrated with the managements attitude and treatment.

Pros

If you are desperate for work, it will pay the bills.

Cons

The people there are rude, aggressive, and want to see people fail. There is a definite sexist, good ol' boy attitude. Serious lack of diversity. Managers hire people who are just like them, and fire anyone with a different opinion. They really don't care if you are happy or feel threatened. You will fill a seat and are a meaningless worker to them.
