A sinking ship

Pros

Incredibly talented and inspiring individual contributors, good salaries.

Cons

Lack of leadership direction means that atlassian has been behind the ball for the past few years. There’s a serious lack of innovation within the company. We’re just seeing the reckoning of this with the recent layoffs. I’ve never worked at a company where employees were disappointed for not being laid off. All the most talented IC’s have left or are in the process of leaving. On an individual level, there is a dehumanising and psychologically damaging process of stack ranking engineers against their direct peers. Most of the bottom 10% are put on PIP / let go every year. There’s an underlying sense of fear for any interaction with colleagues. One cannot escape the irony of our stock price ticker…

Pros

Still good WLB compared to other tech companies at Bay area.

Cons

Management teams are mostly veterans from Microsoft and try to rebuild everything in Microsoft way, resulting in a big failure for transition.
