Pros

Stable company-claim no layoffs in almost 100 years, Christmas & incentive bonus, retirement matching plan, pension, full benefits, company vehicle with field position (comes with stipulations), lots of nice co-workers.

Cons

Work load for claim reps is unmanagable (150+ open files/rep is low count for position) and puts the employee in a bad position given the nature of the job. Reviews are often subjective and do not provide clear feedback on how to move forward toward promotions. Pay is significantly lower than industry average, even when factoring in bonuses. Yearly reviews rarely result in raises in excess of 2% regardless of level of performance. Management appears to neglect staffing shortages in claims division. Travel for training is required and employees have to share rooms and are not provided adequate transportation. Company vehicle is tracked for GPS and driving habits, and associates are required to pay $.16 per mile driven for personal miles. Company expectation is that employees stay at work as long as it takes to complete workload based on company claims handling guidelines.

Pros

Good insurance and retirement plan. You are vested in a pension after 5 years and there is an okay profit sharing plan as well. If you can bite the bullet and conform to strict 8-4:30 schedule and professional attire (ties required for men) without complaint then you are "great". Great co-workers, these are some of the nicest people I've ever met.

Cons

They pipe music overhead. Company is very "top heavy" when it comes to management decisions. Not really a flexible schedule, but some managers will bend the rules. Crappy sick time policies. Promotions and transfers for better opportunities are not transparent. Positions are not posted. Promotions appear to be based on a "timeline" rather than on actual talent. Pay below industry average.

Pros

Stable company, Credit Union. As long as you show up on time every day and sit at your desk your a great employee. Co-workers are wonderful.

Cons

Company politics are terrible. Employees are just a number. They will not make any change for employees unless it benefits the company. This belief is clearly known as part of our culture. The pay raises are the same for everyone and discussing salaries is forbidden. They really are strict on the time you arrive for work. Even if you are 1 minute late and work during your lunch or stay late you will get talked to and written up for being late. Some of the employees use fob's to scan in and they run the reports regularly. If you have a real issue with the company there isn't anything your direct manager can do because they manage how they are told to manage.
