Great company, but...

Pros

Strong compensation plans and benefits, and if you can stick around employment at Autodesk provides a good opportunity to put some money in the bank. There are great people who work there and the culture, while not what it was, remains very strong. The products are innovative and the company is attempting to live closer to the bleeding edge. Life/work balance is greatly aided by the annual week of rest (Xmas to New Years) along with a 6-week paid sabbatical every 4 years.

Cons

The instability is difficult to cope with over time. Although the current changes are attempting to make the revenue stream more predictable, Autodesk remains a bit of a canary in a coalmine when it comes to economic upturns and downturns. You can expect massive layoffs every 2-3 years, followed by periods of growth.

Pros

1. Provides great benefits 2. Is an industry leader for almost all engineering fields that it addresses 3. Emphasis on innovation 4. Generous bonuses and stock option grants, frequently 5. Fantastic employee stock purchase plan

Cons

1. The company (or maybe the group I was working in) has pretty indiscriminate hiring policies 2. Indiscriminate promotion policies -- quite a few incompetent managers 3. Very little interaction between industry groups, often leading to 'silo' products 4. Too many indiscriminate acquisitions

Pros

Good pay, but no stability, they follow the fire and fire policy, you can get hired and then get fired within 1 year,

Cons

Unstable, a lot of unneeded expenses , fire and hire & hire and fire policy...think 100 time before you join, look for stability not the money.
