Pros

- Decent work/life balance. - Some ability to move to another position. - Great people to work with. - Reasonable access to tools needed for job. - 8 Paid holidays which is about average I believe. - Completly paid employee health care, 90% paid dental.

Cons

- Poor compensation. Not even competative with surrounding employers. - PTO is at or below the median. 15 days is the starting point, increases to 18 days after a few years (20 days after 7 years). - Stock Options are not all that great (not that many, and high excersise price) - The company 401k is awful. No match, and pretty high fees. - Health plan is only okay. Very high deductible though. - Everyone in the company recieves an email everytime a sale is made. But little recognition is given to tech. employees for anything. - This company outsources like nothing I have ever seen. They actually outsource development (not just tech- support), and it really shows in the quality of code produced.

Pros

Very old school in care about employees. Devs are given their choice of hardware, I picked their standard offering of a MacBook Pro with 16GB of memory, 1 TB Solid State Drive.... I asked for two 24" monitors and they were there (exact model that I requested). Devs are treated as PEOPLE here, not units of code productions. While I am a PSE, the same is offer to juniors. Very excellent senior Tech people to work with, high in experience and skills. Direct conversations with Chief Architect and directors across the company. You are heard, your suggestions will be discussed with you, and often acted upon! Very libel working from home policy.

Cons

If you live in redmond, a bummer of a commute. However, BI schools are as good as Mercer Island and quality of life is better. They have offices in Pier 55 with awesome view of the sound so you do not need to make the commute everyday. It's a brown field (with some patches of green) dev environment, so high frustration will happen if you have been dancing on green grass only. Bring muck boots -- you will need them but you will get awesome support in dealing with the manure.

Pros

Good and flexible environment, work from home facility are the good things in Avalara. Work culture is also very good. People are very friendly and helping natured.

Cons

Management does not listen to the employee's personal issues. Career growth is limited here. No onsite facility is available though they send few people for few months tour to US in B1 Visa.
