LOL, really?

Pros

Local churches and families studying and memorizing scripture and sharing the gospel.

Cons

Enormous leadership vacuum, lack of continuity or any desire to stay connected to what once made the ministry valuable. I especially love the reviews that say "tight-knight" or "close and committed" employee community - that's what happens when iceberg you're sitting on is sinking. It's tragic for the MANY families who lost not only income but connection to this ministry with the ridiculous number of "rightsizing" they've done over the past decade. Who cares about the human factor or mission focus when you can just keep swapping seats on the Titanic. Wish I could give it zero stars, but ...

Serve God elsewhere!

Pros

Incredibly passionate co-workers. Mid-level and lower employees are fiercely dedicated to serve constituents. Flexible and family oriented workplace. The mission of Awana is clear and worthy.

Cons

Leadership is abusive. Constant gaslighting and threats wear you down and question your own faith and obedience of God. Dedicated employees can’t make up for the hypocrisy of leaders flattering you to your face and then defaming you in closed meetings and behind your back. Show anything other than devotion to leadership and you are excluded from critical meetings for you to perform your job. Lack of clarity and strategy breeds unhealthy competition. Redundant job assignments create confusion and stepping on toes.

Run if you are a woman leader

Pros

Beautiful ministry mission and vision.

Cons

Wisdom of women leaders is not respected or valued. Look at the organization chart and see who gets promotions. Says a lot. Hasn't changed in decades. Women have to work too hard to be heard and contribute their best gifts. They are patronized by senior-level, male leaders - current VPs included. Women's leadership gifts are squelched/ignored. Strong, assertive women, who have differing perspectives, are seen as trouble makers. Eventually these talented women are either fired, counseled out, laid off, quit, or hang on and not in a position to fully contribute their gifts . . . . tragic, actually.
