Pros

People you work with day-to-day are awesome. They appreciated what you do to make their ship superintendent job easier, less paperwork.

Cons

No upward mobility. No pay increases on a scheduled time frame. Management is out of the loop on what it takes to get a job completed, but are quite dictatorial about what they want, even if it makes no sense. Don't think outside the box; make recommendations and you are tagged as an ineffective employee or worse singled out as the employee not to be. You are labeled based on the type of job you have and treated accordingly.

Very poor experience so far

Pros

Extremely talented co-workers, good technical work. Great flexibility to work from home as well as flexibility in timings

Cons

No chances of any promotions and culture is often non-existent. The few places and teams where there is culture is toxic. Lot of lifers who have some seriously big egos and attitudes. If you are their yes man or woman, you can go places, if you stand up against them, expect horrible reviews and complaints against you. Some really senior folks have no clue what is happening in the trenches

Support and benefits during illness

Pros

The company has an excellent benefits and health care package which I had to use during my first 6 months. I was instantly covered by the Private Medical Insurence and was given an administrative point of contact at the company, who dealt with all issues, during my 3 month recovery period. The company remained flexible to my needs when I returned to work, I felt valued as an employee.

Cons

As an experianced hire you are expected to hit the ground running and thrown into the deep end. Though staff are willing to help by answering any queries you may have, you have to quickly understand how the company conducts its work with its clients, how the company functions as a whole at a glodbal scale and where you and your role fits into it.
