Disappointing Experience

Pros

If you are looking for a place to be paid a good salary, receive good benefits, come and go as you please and not be held accountable- this is the place for you.

Cons

Where to begin? The corporate headquarters in North America is cold, sterile and unwelcoming. The corporate strategy is so customer focused that it has seemed to forget about it's employees. Customer first is everywhere - but you can't win customers with unhappy employees. There are middle managers who are not held accountable, are not experts in their designated area, and are retained/promoted because of skeletons in the closet. This is the sort of place where Vice Presidents sit in their ivory towers so not to associate with the plebeians. This is not a culture of inclusion. This is a culture of hierarchy. There are no defined career paths at BASF. Good luck having a conversation with your manager about next steps and growth. Everything is dictated out of Germany. If you want to implement new technology or ideas- most likely won't happen - so if you are looking to drive impact and make change this is not the place for you. I was hoping for a diverse experience when I joined-that is what I saw externally- and sadly I was disappointed. Check the boxes for diversity externally but no follow through internally. To summarize: If you are looking for a place where you are valued, part of something bigger... a place where people are friendly and you build meaningful relationships to drive impact- this simply is not the place. This is not a silo view- this is a cultural underpin of the organization.

BASF Response

Thank you for shedding light on our managers, who have very high expectations as leaders at BASF, and for being a part of the BASF family for over three years. We are sorry to hear your experience with us was disappointing. BASF prides itself on an environment that encourages employees to always gain more knowledge, hone their talents, and for new and prospective employees to have the same experience. We appreciate your review and rating.

Pros

The culture is respectful and inclusive and the people are very committed and skilled. There is plenty of opportunity to develop yourself and the company provides generous benefits.

Cons

It is a very large global company so there are inefficiencies from time to time and the corporate strategy out of head office doesn't always align to local markets and needs.
