Pros

If you enjoy 12 hour shifts/only working 3-4 days a week.

Cons

No work life balance, they can't keep staffed despite paying well for the area. Constant forced overtime. Exposure to toxic chemicals that they assure you are entirely safe, even though the warnings on the products say otherwise. If you use leave of most types, they will try to get rid of you. Several people who have worked there for years are afraid to have health issues addressed, because if it requires time off on short term, they know they may not return. The company will try to avoid assisting you with paperwork or even what paperwork is required in order to classify you as having "quit". It is widely known that if you are injured at work, you claim it happened at home. The equipment and even the building itself is falling apart and often unsafe. Many tools required for your job will not be available. They will tell you that dust in the air is unsafe and an explosion hazard, but not provide consistently functioning vacuum systems, "cleaning" is done by blowing dust into giant clouds with an air wand. They also close down for weeks most years. You will not be paid for this time unless you use your vacation days. There aren't really enough of those to cover shut downs, and if there are, you will not have vacation time for an actual vacation. They then act like they're doing you a favor for shutting down, and brag that they offer vacation time. You will be penalized in the form of a "skip" if you dare have a day off that is before or after a block where they want to force you to work overtime, even if you had scheduled the day off 8 months before and they didn't require overtime until days before.

Pros

Some companies talk a big game and don't back it up. BASF does an excellent job of demonstrating its core beliefs. It treats its employees like humans and appreciates that we're the reason the company is functional and successful, not just like cogs in a machine. They offer a very strong DEI policy which encourages people to be safe - both physically and emotionally, They offer excellent opportunities for career growth, and benefits that are so good that I often feel guilty about how lucky I am to work here. The people I work with are the true joy. Your colleagues can make or break an experience. I am surrounded by passionate people who genuinely want to be doing this job.

Cons

BASF is a massive company. This sometimes the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. This leads to superfluous systems and slow lead times on items such as IT support or launching new programs.
