Lots of broken promises, flawed systems, lack of communication. I applied and interviewed for the position in August of 2022, with a starting salary of $50k plus benefits. I was also told that there would be 2 weeks of training at the company's headquarters in Dallas. After multiple interviews, by September it was said that I was their chosen candidate... then, nothing. After multiple follow up attempts, I was told that due to corporate changes they had selected me for the position, however I would not be able to start until January. I was also told that the position would not be salaried, it would be commission based. Despite the delay, lack of communication, and massive change in compensation, I decided to accept. Shortly before the holidays I received several large packages containing a laptop, monitors, and other equipment required for the job, and I received a starting date in early January. But despite my various emails and phone calls, no further information was provided regarding my start date. The internet provided literally three different office locations, and I had no information on where I was to go, what time to be there, or who I should be meeting with. Finally, the afternoon before my start date I was provided with details regarding my training which would be virtual and which was shortened from two weeks to 3 half days. The trainer was excellent and super helpful in getting me comfortable with the company's systems, but the training was solely on the software and systems that the company uses. There was no training on how to actually do my job (analyst). The following week I was provided with no direction and had to ask what I was supposed to be doing, who I should report to, etc. I was assigned to a lead appraiser and helped do some basic Excel data entry to get my feet wet for the next two weeks. My third week with the company I was given a small job to work on. Two weeks later the appraiser and I reviewed the job together and submitted it. I did not received my first pay check, which was barely $500, until the end of February... It took 2 months to earn $500. I should also mention that the company-wide systems that I was trained on were NOT used at my office because a.) supposedly the company systems do not work for the type of jobs my appraiser was completing, and b.) nobody at my office knew how to use the company software. I continued through February with this lead appraiser, who was very helpful, and in early March I was transitioned to a new lead appraiser. She was not very welcoming, but fortunately she had another analyst working under her who I was able to work with. Him and I worked together for the next month and he was extremely helpful, I learned a lot while working with him. And then he left the company (I now understand why). This new appraiser that I was working with was far from helpful. She had me working in an older program, so none of the training on the company-wide systems that I received applied. In addition, all of the company documents and checklists don't work with the old system. When I would ask my lead appraiser for help, she would tell me to look at a previous job. And I never knew how long a job would take because with each new job I was expected to complete work that I had never done before. When I would reach out to one of the appraisers at corporate in Dallas for help, he would be surprised that an analyst as new as me was expected to be doing a full report, and he was also shocked that we were not using the new systems that the company developed. I literally had to teach myself cost approach and various other aspects of a commercial real estate appraisal. When our new office opened I was excited to be working with my colleagues every day, but nobody ever showed up to my office, especially my lead appraiser. When I submitted jobs, even with deadlines approaching or missed, my appraiser would send me pages of vague edits that I was left to decipher. Another analyst who's been with the company 4 years even questioned some of the edits required by my lead appraiser. She was vague, too busy to jump on a call to help, and ultimately decided to no longer pass along jobs for me. My highest paid month with the company was about $1,300 - hardly a livable wage in NJ. Luckily I obtained a part-time job back in March and I made more money there working 10 hours per week than I did working full-time at BBG. Ultimately I was let go because the work load this year is quite low compared to last year - us analysts were usually sitting around waiting for the next job to come in. I don't regret my 8 months at BBG. I got to meet a couple really great analysts and appraisers who I learned a lot from in my short time with the company. Due to the lack of guidance from my lead appraiser, I also basically learned how to complete a commercial real estate appraisal from cover-to-cover on my own. But from before my start date I have been disappointed with the lack of communication, lack of direction, lack of training, and disconnect between corporate and my individual office. The low pay also does not make me miss working here.
