      Pros

      I had a job that paid a salary to go to everyday for 18 months

      Cons

      I was micromanaged, screamed at by bosses and then 18 months after I was hired they let the whole department go. I suspect that they new this was happening when they hired me.

      Used to be a great company to work for, but politics and cost-cutting now rule the day.

      Pros

      Interesting and socially useful products, challenging work and the chance to contribute to human health, peers tend to be smart and supportive, nice environment, good benefits, flexible hours.

      Cons

      Growth opportunities for individual contributors are lacking, compensation is lagging compared with other companies in the region, work-life balance is eroding due to management changes and operation by crisis. I have recruited two people to the company in the past and now could not do so in good conscience.

      Can be good if you can take the big company culture

      Pros

      It's great to know the products can really help people, and the company is pretty serious about being ethical. R&D projects are varied and interesting. Some really excellent people to work with. A respectful and pleasant work environment with good benefits.

      Cons

      Big, very risk-averse company with a paralyzing massive political bureaucracy. There is a desire to be innovative, but the culture does not really support innovation. Every project requires a huge amount of internal stakeholder input, and the naysayers often have the most power. Hard to be brave when everyone is always out for your budget. Increasingly there is a push to centralize/standardize support functions, which pushes more administrative work onto associates. Can be very hard to really be productive with the massive organizational overhead.
