Pros

Veteran employees who still believe in what BECU used to stand for, hanging on in hopes that the company changes course from its current direction back to its original current values.

Cons

BECU was once a leader within the credit union industry, but recent priorities have shifted toward image and company expansion rather than generally caring for their employees. Leadership has shown to have a lack of humility and empathy which has created a terrible environment for dedicated hardworking employees that are being taken for granted. The culture of leadership is disconnected from the everyday struggles of the staff. Simple gestures of free lunch, or small events are used to boost morale, but often highlight inequity. It’s more a facade to appear caring, when in reality staff are left unsupported and unheard. The very people keeping the company working. Finally, employees are consistently encouraged to go above and beyond job expectations, which in and of itself is reasonable, however the average employee sees no such reward, recognition, or advancement after sacrificing their own financies, time and well being. Any such request from the staff for balance or fairness is often met with deflection and gaslighting.

Pros

None really.... except many employees does not need to work hard and it is a simple 9 to 5. There are no new initiatives and easy to slack through the day

Cons

Old school management and incompetent managers, directors, so call VPs. The company is losing money and not keeping customer data safe. Many accounts are being opened with stolen identities and loans are taken fraudulently.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. We understand that your experience has been disappointing, and we appreciate you being candid about what you’ve observed. It’s unfortunate to hear that you didn't find many positives in your time here. Everyone deserves to feel engaged, challenged, and confident in the integrity of the work being done around them. When that’s not the case, it can understandably lead to frustration and disillusionment. Your comments about leadership, data security, and organizational direction reflect serious concerns. While we may not see every issue in the same way, we want to acknowledge the importance of what you’ve raised. Ensuring strong leadership, accountability, and data protection are non-negotiable priorities, and these are areas that continue to receive focused attention. We also recognize that not every employee will experience the same pace or level of engagement depending on their role, and that can shape perceptions of the broader culture. Your feedback is a reminder that we must continue to align expectations, communication, and resources to ensure that every employee feels their work is meaningful and impactful. Thank you again for your honesty. Even difficult feedback helps us reflect on where improvements are needed and how we can better live up to our values.

Pros

A lot to do. A lot to fix. A lot to make better.

Cons

Can't fix it, can't do the work, can't make it better. Total bureaucracy and budget not available- it's all being used on shiny object projects.

Thank you for sharing such candid feedback. It’s clear that you care deeply about the organization’s mission and the cooperative values that have long defined it. We appreciate you acknowledging that there’s a lot of opportunity here — to fix, improve, and make things better. That desire for progress reflects the dedication of employees who truly want to see the organization thrive. Regarding your comments about leadership and culture, we recognize that change at the executive level can sometimes feel misaligned with long-standing values. While modernization and strategic investment are necessary for growth, it’s equally critical that decisions stay rooted in the credit union’s cooperative purpose — putting people before profit. Thank you for your honesty and for caring enough to share your point of view. Even when perspectives differ, feedback like yours is essential to help leadership reflect on priorities, ensure transparency, and strengthen the connection between our mission, our employees, and the members we serve.
