Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re glad to hear that the opportunity to work from home and be fully remote has been a positive aspect of your experience. Flexibility like this is something we strive to offer, knowing how important it is for work-life balance and overall job satisfaction. We also hear your concern about career progression. Feeling that it’s hard to advance can be discouraging and is something we take seriously. Professional growth is a key part of a fulfilling career, and your feedback highlights an opportunity to better support employees in achieving their goals through clearer pathways, development opportunities, and mentorship. Knowing this, there is crucial work going on as part of our organizational Internal Mobility project. We want to ensure we're equipping employees with tools and resources to further their careers, while also educating leaders on what that means and looks like. Please start to explore and use these things, and continue to provide feedback. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Your input is invaluable in helping us improve and create an environment where every team member feels empowered to grow and succeed.

Good longterm people, less desirable culture

Pros

Great longterm employees, good benefits and work life balance.

Cons

New CEO and EMT completely changed culture more toward a for profit institution feel. They don’t favor internal employees in the hiring process either, rather putting their bets on external candidates who have proved to be nothing special.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. It’s encouraging to hear that you value the long-term employees, benefits, and work-life balance. These are essential aspects of a positive workplace and reflect the dedication and care of many within the organization. That said, we hear your concerns about the cultural shift under new leadership and the perceived focus on external hires over internal talent. A strong, values-driven culture is critical, and it’s disheartening to hear that this shift has impacted how employees feel about the organization’s direction. Recognizing and fostering internal talent is not only vital for morale but also leverages the deep knowledge and commitment of those who have contributed to the organization’s success over time. Your advice to "bet on your people" is valuable and resonates deeply. Prioritizing the growth and advancement of long-term employees can strengthen the organization from within and demonstrate trust in the talent already present. Currently, 33% of BECU's hire come from internal talent. We're also committed to making the internal hiring experience better through our Internal Mobility project - pieces of which have started rolling out. Thank you again for your thoughtful feedback. It’s insights like yours that help guide meaningful reflection and improvement, ensuring we stay aligned with our mission and values.

Pros

Benefits: Pension and generous PTO

Cons

CEO: came from bank and has changed the culture from member driven to profit driven. Hired most of exec team from outside of state and are flown in on members dime constantly. They have no tie to local community where the majority of members are located. Culture is toxic: employees aren’t listened to and penalized for speaking up, very bureaucratic, countless projects started and never finished with many spanding over multiple years (again wasting members money)

Thank you for sharing your honest feedback. We’re glad to hear that the benefits, such as the pension plan and generous PTO, have been positive aspects of your experience. These are important elements in supporting employees and creating a balanced work environment. However, we also hear your concerns about the cultural and leadership changes you’ve observed, and we take them seriously. The shift from a member-driven focus to what feels like a profit-driven approach, along with the disconnect between leadership and the local community, are deeply concerning. A strong connection to the community is a cornerstone of our mission, and it’s critical to ensure that leadership decisions align with those values. Your comments about the workplace culture and employee experience are equally important. Employees should feel heard, respected, and supported, and it’s troubling to hear that this hasn’t been your experience. Unfinished projects and bureaucracy not only hinder progress but also risk wasting valuable resources. Thank you for your feedback—it’s a reminder of the importance of staying true to our core values and ensuring that every team member feels valued and empowered. We are committed to reflecting on these concerns and continuing to drive the organization in a positive direction for members and employees.
