Pros

High pay, low cost health insurance, additional health benefits like standing desk or gym.

Cons

The CIO demanded timelines be moved up. Their acceptable solution was for employees to work nights and weekends to meet deadlines but no one in leadership could explain where the deadlines came from. Leadership does not listen. Their infrastructure was a mess, but leadership did not care and kept pushing to meet the deadlines. They would rather deliver poor code, processes and infrastructure than push back on a deadline. No mater what level you are, most of your time will be spent in meetings and managing ineffective contractors. I had FIVE 30 minute stand ups daily, all with every other week retro and planning sessions. Long term employees have limited growth as the new leadership are just focused on bringing in their past co-workers, even if they lack the experience.

Pros

Less sales pressure than other FIs (however this is changing with its current leaders) Great healthcare benefits Lots of good people at the desks.

Cons

BECU training and skill advancement is weak overall. Those running classes on PowerPoint’s have not adequately demonstrated their own skills before leading classes BECU has a cult like atmosphere where a lot of people are dishonest about why they’re there. The company is filled with people that are self-serving. Company leaders are inadequate at their jobs. Executives have damaged the company’s culture. Everything you do is projected against what kind of vibe they want not skill or knowledge. Current CEO worked for Wells Fargo during the financial crises. She was asked about how she felt about being there during that time and said “we all thought we were indestructible”. She also hired union buster from Starbucks. Once asked a VP what being apart of non profit meant to him and he said “well, I’m really very selfish” and didn’t attempt to answer the question.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We take concerns about leadership and the comments you're referring to very seriously. We will ensure appropriate parties are made aware, and this can be addressed. The organization is hard at work to ensure we focus more on skills our employees possess as well as provide an outstanding internal mobility experience. Your feedback helps us to shape what is needed. We know leaving feedback isn't always easy, but we appreciate you doing so! It will help us shape future work at BECU.

BECU IT Dept

Business Outlook

Pros

Plenty of money to spend

Cons

Too many new leaders in the tech space. They do not understand the environment and dont take the time to figure it out. The organization has ignored long standing problems, failed to address them. New people fight amongst themselves and are not honest. Its a terrible IT shop, would not recommend to anyone.
