Pros

The leaders at BECU focus on their teams development and are very supportive. I came here for good work life balance and benefits and the people I have gotten to work with are a huge bonus to those items. I have been very happy with my work life balance across different positions in this company and think our benefits are amazing. The company culture has been consistent across different teams I've met with a very high emphasis on bringing your authentic self to work which I really appreciate because all our individual uniqueness make our teams stronger and more creative.

Cons

I have not found any downsides. I am so happy being here and plan to stay for a very long time.

Great company, terrible work-life balance

Pros

Benefits Holiday Pay Discount on loan rates Learn a lot about financial health Co-workers are usually great

Cons

Terrible training. Recruiter misquoted hours for PT. Manager changed scheduled hours without consulting me. Concierge role doesn't receive any incentive pay. Others hired in "pay grade" above me with no degree or banking experience over me; I was told that since I didn't have banking experience they could only offer me the lowest entry point position (I'm a college graduate). IMPOSSIBLE to guarantee PTO if you're in the branches. No flexibility in start or end times, unless planned weeks to months ahead; I don't know how anyone can buy a house, have a baby, or have outside hobbies when the days off are constantly rotating, FT employees don't get 2 days off in a row. Long hours! Some FT employees will pull 10-12 hour days (7am mtg, 8:30am-6:15pm shift, get stuck until 7pm because someone walked in 2 minutes before closing wanting to open an account.

Thank you for sharing your concerns. At BECU, we believe our employees are our greatest asset and are dedicated to setting you up for success both personally and professionally. Part of this includes providing employees with the proper tools, resources and trainings needed to effectively perform your current responsibilities, while also providing opportunities to grow professionally within the organization. We’re also equally as committed to the financial health and personal well-being of our employees, which includes promoting work-life balance and encouraging use of paid time off (PTO). We’re sorry to hear your feedback as this doesn’t reflect our commitment. We encourage you to connect with your manager or leadership team to talk about how we can better support your journey at BECU, including discussing career opportunities that align with your passions and learning more about the Concierge annual incentive plan.

Feels like a family

Pros

With an unmatched culture of inclusion and respect, working at BECU feels like you are part of a family. Work/life balance is a priority with BECU. The company offers great incentives and full benefits, even for part time employees. In addition to the important benefits, there are some fun ones, too. For example, BECU will pay up to $20/mo towards your gym/fitness membership, and they give you between $400-$600 for personal health items: Hiking, bowling, running, yoga, massages, kayaking etc. There is a long list. In addition, I love working for this company because they have an active part in bettering the financial health of members in our communities, which is something that I am passionate about.

Cons

If you are interested in working for this company, I encourage you to be patient. There is a long interview/hiring process , especially if you are not being referred by somebody in the company. Once you are hired for a position, or promoted to a new position, you must remain in that position for a minimum of 1 year before you can move up. The year does go by very fast and you will learn a lot, so I do not consider it wasted time.
