Pros

- Great culture! Everyone is very friendly, and overall people are supportive. - Decent benefits, including: 401k matching, pension plan, plenty PTO, & a decent wellness reimbursement. - Management is open to feedback (at least at the branch I have worked) - Many growth opportunities! I have never seen so many people promoted in any of my previous employers. - Coworkers are lovely! BECU knows how to hire nice people.

Cons

- Pay disparity. It's hard to know folks who started after you were given a higher pay range. The highest pay I was quoted is lower than the starting entry level pay for new hires. I've been told it is to attract more talent and stay competitive; it's difficult to swallow when you and other employees have demonstrated loyalty, dedication, and success to the organization. Even if more tenured employees are promoted, we will be perpetually behind in pay for any new hires promoted after us. This is my biggest gripe with BECU, and I don't feel like it's doing the right thing. - Dated programs that can make the job more tedious. - Sometimes, the retail higher ups implement instructions that cause issues for frontline staff. For instance: we are not permitted to put up any signs indicating an ATM is down or has limited functionality. I partially understand why signs are not put up (it could be repaired before we remove the sign); however, it's not fun to be screamed at daily from members about how we do not have signs up. - Some tension between departments. Sometimes we forget we are all on the same team. - If you have dependents/spouse, the premiums for healthcare skyrocket.

Thank you for being a part of the BECU Team and for sharing your comments! The work you do each and every day with our members is incredibly important and is what helps set BECU apart. As we continue to grow, we are always looking for ways to improve both our employee and member experiences. This includes reviewing compensation, offering competitive benefits and ensuring we have systems that make it easier for you to focus on our members. We’ve passed along your comments, but leaders would like to hear directly from you – if you have specific feedback you are comfortable sharing, we encourage you to discuss it with your District Director.

Pros

Benefits that’s about it

Cons

Outside of the benefits everything else is terrible. BECU is ions behind everyone else in the financial world in all aspects. They promote themselves like a bank but don’t have the infrastructure to support it. Very much a bank in disguise of a credit union. No fluidity in processes between departments. Everyone is on a different page and a lot of finger pointing happens. If you work in the branch you will wear a million hats and also be expected to still hit your numbers. The stress is not worth it. Have an HR issue? Don’t even bother they will force you out. New employees start out at higher pay than tenured employees and they know this. Don’t count on getting promoted unless you’ve been with BECU for more than two years or you suck up to the managers.

Thank you for the feedback about your experience with BECU. We are sad to hear that it does not match the workplace that we pride ourselves on creating and reinforcing each and every day. We value our employees tremendously and continue to seek out ways to improve their overall experience. This includes the infrastructure to support their work and employee feedback is an important tool in this process. As a not-for-profit credit union, BECU strives for balanced performance. It’s not just about the numbers, but rather how we can provide the best value and service to our members. Employees are essential to creating the positive, personal interactions with our members that differentiate us from other financial institutions, and we believe that educating members about our services is vital to helping them achieve their financial goals.
