      Pros

      From the day I started, I was extremely impressed with the caliber of individual contributors as well as the leadership at BMC. I was also impressed with the rigor associated with the hiring process and I suppose this is a major contributing factor to my first comment.

      Cons

      As with any sales organization the pressure to perform can be intense - be ready to be your best and always be looking for ways to improve. This means starting with the first day of interviews and continuing throughout your career. BMC can be a tough company to get into but the rigor of the hiring process becomes immediately evident when you start working with this great team.

      Pros

      -- Sometimes, you have the opportunity to work on an interesting project. -- The health benefits are better than average. -- Some of the company's products are leading-edge technology.

      Cons

      -- Absolutely no work/life balance. You literally work until you drop or develop a medical problem. -- Politics at the individual department level are hardball. Coworkers act agressively to gain turf. -- You receive emails from managers written at 2:00 AM. Nothing is said, but you quickly get the hint. -- If you don't hit the ground running from the start, you'll be out of there within three to four months. -- You spend about 30 hours every quarter writing your performance evaluation for your manager. -- Only super stars need apply. Everyone else is lumped into a huge bucket subject to annual layoffs. -- BMC Software doesn't develop new products; instead, they just acquire other companies.
