Pros
Most Mainframe areas of software development allow considerable flexability in work hours, and freedom to work in interesting areas.
Cons
Managament has little understanding of the work people are doing so employees need to be able to judge their own contrubution and development and be satisified with that judgement. Education and training is OJT and self directed with online courses weak. Budget constraints fail to provide growth in professional societies or confrence attendance.
