Pros

Good benefits. Friendly colleagues. Good events from communication teams. Good partnerships. Strong international network and global reach. Great CEO Americas probably one of the best CEO for a foreign bank in the US.

Cons

Too many well paid expats. Instead of increase salaries they prefer hiring full benefits expats (schooling, housing and more.,) !! Local hiring struggles to move up and have increases. Promotion process is just a nightmare and lack of transparency. Old school management (70's). Poor English in Head office.

Pros

BNP has an excellent vacation policy. ** Analysts - start with 21-25 days ** AVP's - start with 30 days ** VP's and higher - max out at 35 days Health benefits are also very comprehensive. ** Medical, Dental and Vision are covered Pay - if you are a new hire it is possible to start with market value Volunteering options for many community activities. BNP promotes a work-life balance ...BUT ... to be continued in the Cons section. Work from home options available, but dependent on the attitudes of the individual departments management. BNP does afford the opportunity to make job changes within the company.

Cons

Raises / Bonuses - horrible. The past 5 years have been the worst and you would be lucky to get 2-3% for both. There has been major global downsizing due to a $9 Billion fine. In the IT departments alone there were over 100 job cuts in 2016. So this is also a factor in the lower raises and bonuses. Jobs have also been either outsourced or near-shored in order to cut costs. Although BNP promotes a work-life balance, this does seem to trickle down to all of the departments within the company, especially in the IT departments. And if you attempt to take advantage of this then you take the chance of being "unofficially" flagged as not being a team player. In IT there are long hours and weekend work constantly all year round even if it's not your scheduled on-call or off-hours rotation. Even though some of the work is planned in advance, that requires most staff from all departments, the amount of projects that require off-hours and/or weekend work is off the charts. Many in IT senior management have their own political/business agendas that end up having repercussions on the working staff.

Pros

If you are interested in a career in the Financial Services Industry, BNP Paribas could be a great place to learn and grow in your career.

Cons

If you are a Human Resources professional, proceed with caution! The HR Department has the right roles but the wrong people in these roles. BNP Paribas is a big proponent of employee mobility—however, insufficient due diligence results in the wrong people mobilizing into other roles—this is catastrophic when these individuals are in leadership roles. All skills are not transferable. Like other professions, Human Resources and its extended branches, from payroll, benefits, recruiting, and compensation, are specialized skills. A stellar performer/decision-maker in one business unit or role does not make a stellar performer/decision-maker for another business unit or role. A company is only as great as its Leaders. There are some great Leaders at BNP Paribas. A Team is only as great as its Leaders—this is where Human Resources is severely lacking. I am an active employee of BNP Paribas. I have been an HR professional for close to twenty years. I've seen it all! For the first time in my career, I filed an EEOC complaint against my employer based on the practices I've witnessed in Human Resources. If promoting the unqualified is going to be the continued practice—it absolutely should not be, but if it is—mandatory leadership coaching should be required when individuals transition into these roles. Human Resources touches every stage of an employee's career cycle. When Human Resources cannot lead by example because of the ineptness of its Leaders, you cannot expect others within the organization to rise to the call of Leadership.
