Pros

WFH - Company isn’t pushing people back to the office anytime soon. Coworkers - Everyone’s nice and level headed. Benefits - Great benefits but most of us are too busy with work to fully utilize them.

Cons

Understaffed and high turnover - New hirers aren’t being brought in quick enough to fill the gap in middle management with all the quality seniors, supervisors and managers leaving. Creates a chaotic environment where inexperienced staff are being forced to take on more responsibility and work longer hours. Those that stay seemed to get screwed. Seems like high turnover is happening across the firm in the IT and CST departments which is sending up a lot of red flags. Pay - Seems substantially lower than other firms, definitely not a contender to be paying within top 25 range. There’s a lot of emphasis on this in firm meetings, but little done in terms of immediate action to re-evaluate to closer to industry pay or inflation. Firm offered merit increases to a few people by evaluating that pay wasn’t being matched across the board, but it’s alarming that it took them that long to realize. With conversations between staff and upper levels, entry level salaries have been the same for years, which proves the firm is late to the inflation game. Management and Officers - seems to be a lot of inaction. lack of accountability, and lack of transparency. Multiple all hands have been cancelled. There haven’t been many effective changes rolled out to combat the amount of burn out that’s at the firm. Comped meals once a quarter don’t really go a longs way. There have been way too many condescending red flags even though “Because People Matter” slogan that is promoted by the firm on every social media platform.

Thank you for your candor. I am sorry that you have had a bad experience. You are correct in saying that we are not requiring our colleagues back to the office. This is a benefit most firms do not offer. In addition, there is increased turnover in the accounting industry and we are doing our best to compete for top talent in the industry “war for talent” . We are in the process of creating new town halls, firm meetings etc. As a result we optimizing vacation periods, however, not canceling. We wish you well in your new endeavor, however, I would certainly enjoy responding to your concerns above. Pros

During "non busy season" times there's flexibility/ Summer hours (out at 3:30 on Fridays), casual dress, easy commute

Cons

Complaints go in one ear and out the other here. Hard work and loyalty mean nothing to this company. It is growing too fast and forgetting the people that have been devoted from the beginning. In turn, you have many unhappy people there that are too scared to speak out. The company has changed very fast from one that was once staff and family oriented to mainly profit and growth focused. Everything is very secretive and not shared till the very last minute. This has caused lots of office politics when everybody is trying to keep their jobs and suck up to management.

Thank you for your honest feedback. We make every effort as a firm to be inclusive and open with our employees. One of the focuses of my role is to ensure an open door policy throughout the firm. I would certainly welcome hearing from you and learning how we can become an even stronger employer of choice. Rblasi@bpmcpa.com (Chief People Officer)

Pros

Fair compensation for the industry and area. SF office has a very collaborative attitude. Reviews and promotion opportunities every 6 months allows you to get advanced promotions.

Cons

Public accounting is just a lot of work anywhere you go. Vesting schedule for employer match is pretty long, you only get 20% vested a year with no cliff. Transparency is talked about a lot but has gone way down, when they fired people in early 2020 they asked them not to send a farewell email and "just let your friends know". I'm also not a huge fan of the photos of Black professionals on our LinkedIn that are stock photos. The whole company is pretty White/Asian, which is the accounting industry in general but why put up stock photos to pretend we are more diverse than we are, seems sleazy.

Thank you for your candor. Prior to switching to a remote work environment, BPM has always had a very collaborative office experience. We pride ourselves on selecting diverse candidates who want to grow within our firm. We provide promotional and growth opportunities several times throughout the year and this is what sets us apart from other firms. BPM continues to celebrate diversity & inclusion initiatives in the workplace and we are excited for additional opportunities in 2021 to remain a top employer. I would love to hear more about your experience. Please reach out to Rblasi@bpmcpa.com (Chief People Officer)
