Decent company to work for

Pros

The people and my direct team are great to work with. Overall, it's a fun company to work for. The company perks and benefits are great (e.g., free coffee, cereal and fruit, monthly socials and gatherings to keep employees happy).

Cons

Unfairness in promotion. Bain often creates job titles/positions that aren't applicable in the outside work world. There is a huge disconnect between the administrative and consulting staff in terms of treatment and pay. Senior management tend to promote within if the candidate comes from a 'consulting' background, despite the person's hands on experience and knowledge in the industry. Senior management often values a consultant's perspective/insight more so than that of an admin employee with extensive knowledge and background in the industry.

Pros

- Great benefits and compensation overall - Specialized teams - Once in a while office event - Affinity groups try to do more things here than at any other place I've worked at in the past

Cons

- Consistent poor planning from Leadership Team and business - Poor alignment and communication among departments and between stakeholders - Extremely toxic environments where people are so stressed and confused in so much chaos at times that they recur to throw others under the bus and make no hesitation when it comes to complaining about every little thing while bringing down others along the way with them - Very little to no recognition for all the efforts made including constantly approving exceptions that mean rushing for our teams and dropping everything, and for extremely demanding work done despite on time delivery and high quality work delivered consistently - Lack of clear expectations from day one (and you would still be responsible and at fault for this) - Lack of role clarity from day one and only gets worse (and you would still be responsible and at fault for this, and affected in your performance reviews despite not being your fault.) - People will take things away from you that you own and then use it against you as not taking enough ownership or prioritizing properly - people will overstep your role and act as your manager when they are not. - Hiring freeze now for 2+ years, teams constantly overwhelmed and stretched out. Compensation merit increases being severely affected by firm performance despite having double digit profit % increases over the year. Completely reckless and inconsiderate from management. Be warned, this is a very intense job but for all the wrong reasons, and can be miserable at times with very long hours as you navigate all the noise and chaos coming from all directions. My recommendation if you still want to try out Bain as a company is to perhaps look at other areas outside of Technology Solutions Group (TSG) but in the end, the issue seems more widespread than our teams / department in some of the concerning areas as stakeholders are already in another department and they are actually the main perpetrators of our most miserable days at work.

Pros

Bain & Co is a Global firm which has a great culture and offers many challenges. As a member of the support staff I have found the culture to be very family friendly.

Cons

The support staff is very 'lean' so work load can sometimes be a bit overwhelming
