A great foot in the door for conservation
Pros
The park world attracts a wide variety of personalities. It is definitely nice to share a common interest of educating the public about conservation and nature through Baltimore County. They offer a great informative summer Naturalist program touring the parks within the county. For the most part, days are fairly chill with the odd big event here and there. Truly the best part of this position for me was planning programs, being outdoors regularly, and inspiring kids.
Cons
The park I work at has had a high turnover rate in the past. This has left the park in disarray and there is an issue with their council. Most of the parks in the county have one but mine did not. This means that funding can be difficult and very limited. In comparison with the other parks in the county, the lack of resources shows in the buildings on the property. There was recently an issue with mold and maintenance workers come regularly to fix things since it seems to be falling apart. There is very little organization with the supplies in this park and so the back workroom can be chaotic. It is truly a shame as the park has so much to offer the public in both nature and history, I hope that the new park director will be able to help turn things around.
