Pros

Good benefits, great people to work with, in general. There doesnt seem to be a large requirement for "face" time unlike some other banks. Salaries seem to be on a par or higher than competitors. Training is great and encouraged.

Cons

burocracy, egos, some middle management seem to run feifdoms without any penalties. politics is sometimes unbearable, however, i guess that this is the case anywhere. There are some inter-departmental rivalries that need to be dealt with, however, and this can cause some friction for people who are not used to this type of environment. Also, depending on the person you are reporting to, you may need to schmooze!

Pros

The company has good and fair pay. Bonuses are ok, but not amazing. I really enjoyed the environment I worked in, I was supporting the trading floor and felt that I made a difference in the bottom line of which securities they were going to buy or sell.

Cons

The hours there are definitely long. Many times, I've taken the midnite car back, but it feels good every once in a while to remind yourself that what you do is pretty important, and during the end of the year, bonuses are fair. It really depends on how you feel the tradeoff of your personal life to your professional.

Pros

Lots of experienced professionals to learn from. I have a good manager who works very hard and understanding. I hardly go to many long meetings. Many employees have been around BGI for a long time, so they stuck around for a good reason.

Cons

Since I have only been with BGI for a few months, I have not experienced much downside except for the fact that management have told everyone that bonus will be cut significantly. This is 4 months after BGI's internal recruiter told me how great the bonus program was. Can't really complain though considering what is going on with our economy. There are a lot of forms that needs to be filled (mostly online) just to do something. I have to fill up timesheets, project time trackers, change management, development plans, KTOs, etc etc. Not used to it comming from a startup. Too many different development groups that some projects are done more than once
