Not what I expected

Pros

Schedule is flexible and no weekend call or business needs. Bonus is decent.

Cons

Benefits are horrible. No annual increase. Upper management has no clue of what goes out in the field. CEO is in over his head since the CFO got in hot water with the money mismanagement. The good employees they do have run off and don't stick around. The " organizational development team" don't have a clue on how to motivate an organization or how to motivate a team. If you are looking for a career steer clear of this company. They sell workers compensation insurance YOU WILL NOT BE A CONSULTANT! You will be forced to sell their overpriced insurance to poor unsuspecting people.

Lots of talk, but no culture

Pros

Minimal micro-management. If you're competent self-learner, you'll be a rock star.

Cons

Minimal macro-management, and the management you get is rarely helpful. There is no training. There are very few documented procedures. Processes are weak enough to be ineffective or simply ignored. BBSI talks incessantly about Lean Six Sigma and similar methodologies, but this has no discernible effect on the organization. Everyone knows the benefits are poor, and there are justifications passed around for why. It's common knowledge that employees don't get raises, often even with promotions or more responsibility. Largely due to the company's history, executives have no idea how to run an IT organization of this size. Software tools are either archaic, unreliable, or often both. BBSI is a textbook example of the "Peter principle". Mike Elich, the CEO, promotes people he likes to work with or branch managers that make a lot of money for the company. These individuals are rarely equipped to set company policies or guide initiatives. Leadership development means going down to the company house in southern California to get drunk and listen to the CEO tell golf stories.

Horrible Culture

Pros

Competitive salaries (although you better negotiate well - no one gets raises), the office area is nice and professional.

Cons

You get 4 sick days during year 1, and then 1 week of vacation time during year 2 (completely not competitive in this area - current employer and previous employer both provided me 3-4 weeks PTO during year 1 that I could use right away). Expect to work lots of OT, no OT pay though of course as you're salaried, but, expect to be treated like an hourly employee and frowned upon if 2 min late in the morning. Apparently working 6 days a week and long evenings doesn't matter. CEO is awful, sales guy w/zero skill set. I listened to him speak once to a room full of HR managers/consultants and say that HR will never have a place at the table because they don't have a P&L. YOU ARE AN HR SERVICES COMPANY! I was in shock... Culture is awful, several people I knew were literally depressed/crying because they were often treated so badly. Would never recommend anyone to work here, ever.
