      Pros

      Young staff, very knowledgeable senior staff. Many PhDs. Laid back environment.

      Cons

      None really. Some problems with the way some things are done but people are working hard to right wrongs.

      Pros

      Good people and great scientific capabilities if you can focus middle management on what matters most.

      Cons

      Lack of leadership, troubled financial management, failure to focus on improving corporate capabilities for over a decade. Refusal to hire new staff where needed to carry out mission. Sub-market pay and poor incentives for performance. Scientists and engineers don't make great managers and leaders. Near total absence of MBAs in management positions.

      Pros

      Work with multidisciplinary technical teams; interesting projects; great campus in Columbus with a lot of history.

      Cons

      Battelle is in a period of drastic change. Battelle was not able to win sufficient numbers of research contracts over the past 2-3 years, and therefore the contract research workforce is being drastically reduced through layoffs, and early retirement offers. Currently, tough place to be a research scientist. Overall, Battelle is unloading a majority of its talent to cut costs.
