Pros

Pay good and benefits ok. Technical staff and many engineers extremely capable and usually work well together. Attemptjng to retain as much technical staff as possible during this terrible downturn in the economy.

Cons

Politically driven and bottom line dollar only goal to success and they use % time worked as standard to retain personel. This would not be a problem if work doled out fairly but favored sons get their plate filled first. You may benefit as a minority from this but only if there is someone looking out for you, regardless of having a good work ethic, and experience. Many departments overworked due to NO PLANNING! This creates a sense in the common employees of just getting" lip service" when HR professes Battelle wants employees to find a balance between work and home. Is this why they give us PW fobs so we can go home and log in for a few more hours off the clock or get told on a Friday afternoon a report needs to be done by Monday and there's no more budget for the work? This is expected occasionally by most exempt but for some departments it the norm. I'm slightly irritated by complaints that the environment has become "too military" - from people that don't know what that is. This environment has so much slop in the work schedule yet everyone has a HUGE sense of entitlement for just showing up to work. No two departments are run consisently so it's like dealing with100 independent contractors everyday with each employee involved. Trying to match schedules is a nightmare. Also, your subordinate one day may be your boss the next. Employee here have little to no idea of what a real military mindset would be capable of if only everyone would just SHOW UP at a decent time. This is the furthest from the military I've ever experience, and I'm EX-military so know what that is! Batelle management has managed to create a negative environment for "many interns" since they tend to be cheaper than "regular staff". That "regular staff" is being expected to compete for work with cheaper labor with little to no experience in an environment where they have little to no control over who gets the work.. Intern experiences are extremely dependent on who takes care of them not necessary the same for all involved. Just for the record, I've worked many places in the last 30 years. This is a beautiful facility with many intelligent and capable people but also many ugly management issues.Likes cannot continue to promote like if there is to be any positive change here.
