      Amazing Company with No Strategy

      Pros

      Smart people; fascinating work; active in the community; great employee resource groups; lots of opportunities to get involved with philanthropic endeavors.

      Cons

      Benefits are marginal; top of the house (ALL white, middle aged, Christian, straight men) didn't communicate a strategy; poor balance between work /life (the former always takes priority); very little diversity in management ranks; very poorly executed voluntary retirement and separation programs executed with NO HEAD OF HR. Who does that??

      Pros

      Good reputation as a research organization. Great people (friendly and competent) in many departments. Nice team work within departments and among them.

      Cons

      Little to no management support for career development which is supposed to happen on your own time and at your own expense. The mantra is to keep overhead and non-billable costs as low as possible, but by now this has negatively impacted most Battelle employees in one way or another.

      Pros

      Battelle has very smart people doing incredible things you've never heard of. A non-profit STEM education funder. I enjoyed the business of innovative solutions.

      Cons

      Battelle has had a long term problem with advertising capabilities. The company grew fat and happy on government contracts, but sole source IDIQ is a thing of the past. This change caught Battelle off guard. In an attempt to be more competitive in the market, employees are suffering. Cuts in benefits year over year for 5 years straight.
