      Solve What Matters Most?

      Pros

      High quality people. Solve hard problems. Good charitable mission.

      Cons

      What matters most is the bottomline. Little tolerance for non-billable work. No clear path for advancement outside of Columbus. Quick to layoff un-billable staff. Admin organizations in the company operate independently of those they serve. Inefficient matrix management. Some of those who own the work do not work well with resource managers. They don't communicate and they lead their projects using fear and threats of losing work to "keep people in check."

      Pros

      No pros...Just if you do not have any other choices and you need a paycheck. It used to be a graet place to work.

      Cons

      Very stressful work enviroment; no recognition for the technical staff, no opportunities for career development /advancment and for continuous education.

      Pros

      The company itself is great. It has very good benefits plus there is a pension program in addition to a fantastic 401(K) plan with Vanguard.

      Cons

      When I first came on board with the company's office in Arlington, VA, it was a much different place from what it is now. The focus seemed to be more on taking care of people and, as a non-profit company, less on the skullduggery one might expect from 'for profit' companies. Unfortunately, as time went by and I had the opportunity to peer behind the veil, I found that staff members MUST ingratiate themselves to Management in order to have any hopes of moving up. It is favoritism that will get you places, not merit.
