Pros

- very diverse product portfolio (Renal, Nutrition, Hemophilia, Oncology etc) and are all acute care based hence higher margins - company employees and management truly believe in saving and sustaining lives - R&D spend of $1B annually - good corporate citizen and cares for employees

Cons

- very profitable hence there is a lower sense of urgency in employees and management. Slow and fractured decision making - limited success with R&D spend in terms of new products or margin improvement. Low accountability - management team in general is old school and disconnected with rank and file. Employee surveys reflect this.

Pros

In Parkinson's first 5 years, there were tremendous opportunities to make an impact at all levels. The culture was open and teamwork was strong. Today there some recent changes have brought discipline and occasionally improved decision making. Although career opportunities are scarce, fewer weak people are being promoted. Throughout, the company makes products that matter to providers and patients. The company believes in doing the right thing.

Cons

Career opportunities have become rare and only open to those who combine talent with political connections and savvy. While the BioScience pipeline has promise, many programs are longshots and/or underfunded. There is literally nothing in the Medical Products pipeline other than home hemodialysis. Executive management is not proficient at building organizational capabilities. Baxter has always had a core competency in manufacturing. Parkinson has added no competencies.
