Pros

The products that Bell makes are second to none. For the most part, they have a talented workforce. They have been modernizing the facilities over the past few years.

Cons

Layoffs. Another couple hundred sent packing this week. They are turning over the workforce. Hiring young inexperienced workers at the expense of seasoned, experienced incumbants.

Pros

I learned a lot about designing & building aircraft, especially using composites. There are (were) a lot of really smart people working at Bell. We had very good manufacturing capabilities - to build anything from rotor blades to windows, wings to transmissions - and all the tooling/jigs/fixtures needed. I worked tons of hours & made tons of money.

Cons

Bell is actively getting rid of the older, experienced employees because they cost too much - the last Voluntary Separation Program had over 2,000 people quitting. They are not capturing the tribal knowledge when people leave. I worked there 9 years - in that time we shed people & equipment in all areas. Bell wants all union-covered positions gone - they want to be an Engineering/Marketing front end, with all manufacturing/assembly work outsourced.
