Pros

People come first at Berklee. It is a supportive culture. There is a good work-life balance. Employees are passionate about the success of their students.

Cons

There is limited opportunity for advancement and number of years required experience for positions isn't reflected in salary.

It's a sad, sad story...

Pros

The new dorm is cool.

Cons

It's a shame-based, extremely unhealthy, highly dysfunctional organization. The lack of authenticity, especially at the so called "leadership" level, is stunning, actually heart-breaking. As a workplace, the entire structure is based on fear, resentment of others (over stupid, petty, childish things), and the consistent abuse of power. The administration, acting just like an alcoholic, changes the rules to suite their whims. I've seen teachers point out rules and regulations that they had adhered too (because that's why they were created, right?) and get thrown under the bus anyway. And the union? Well, if "they" like you, and you keep your head down and your mouth shut, then you'll be "ok". But if they don't? You might as well start looking for another job. I've watched so-called HR "professionals" completely ignore violations in the workplace, simply because the "decision" had been made to "get rid" of this person or that person. Also, people go 15, 20, 25 years without a raise. They hire brand new people, and give them full-time positions to meet some ill-defined "diversity" goal, while great teachers with 10, 15, and 20 years experience are still picking up the crumbs as part-timers. It's a travesty of justice. And for a place that loves to get all spiritual and up in your face about "saving these people" and "helping those people", you're stunningly hypocritical when it comes to taking care of YOUR OWN PEOPLE. What's the saying? "I love humanity, it's people I can't stand."
