Pros

They start their employees off at a higher wage than most other retail employers will. A lot of valuable time is actually spent on training new employees, something most retailers don't bother a lot with. For full-timers, they also give great benefits including, full medical, dental, optical, 401(k), stock options, and paid vacation and personal time. They also receive their own email accounts with the employee tool kit that allows all Best Buy employees everywhere to effectively communicate with each other. Best Buy also encourages all their employees to branch out into other departments of the store they're interested in.

Cons

The constant pressure on operations specialists (cashiers & customer service reps) to sell product replacement and service plans, and get customers to sign up for the Best Buy credit card and Reward Zone card. All aren't bad ideas, but the constant emphasis on convincing customers to get those things.

Pros

If you are in favor and have a senior leader backing you, BBY is very proactive at development. The leaders (Brad Anderson and Brian Dunn), I believe, are very ethical and committed to their employees. There are many smart people and a commitment to creativity.

Cons

Best Buy is split into four groups: Retail, Corporate, Consultants and Subsidiaries. The retail group is dominated by excessively competitive types who regularly violate their own ethical code to achieve career objectives. There is a great deal of hubris in this area and it will eventually lead BBY to ruin if left unchecked. The Corporate group are smart and capable, but for the most part also obsessed with whether they will be around in a month and their next career move. Senior leadership inked a deal with Accenture that gave too much control of key operational areas to a single entity, leading to a predictable level of conflict between expectations and deliverables. The integration of BBY's subsidiaries have been a failure, largely due to the lack of an effective merger and acquisition strategy, and the unchecked interference by one or all of the other groups above.

Pros

Great pay scale compared to similar job functions. If you can get in touch with the right people, you can move up quickly. This all depends on your manager, however.

Cons

Highly political. It's all about who you know. The management says it isn't about seniority for promotions, but you will find out that this is *all* its about.
