Pros

Good Salary 6 Weeks Vacation Per Year Good 401k Matching At one time some of the most brilliant and hardworking engineers you'd ever work with. A few of them still remain.

Cons

Leadership has always been lacking at BNR but has gotten significantly worse in recent times. Financial hardships have led to multiple layoffs as well as accepting any work that comes in the door. People of high quality have been laid off and much of the remaining talent has left recently. The office is frequently empty since most employees work from home or travel for clients and teaching. Very high turnover at all levels

Pros

There's not much to this company anymore that makes it a special place. All those so called 'Pros' are basically what everybody else offers. The benefit of having a personal trainer seems nice, for those who need that, apart from that basically everything else is pretty standard.

Cons

Big Nerd Ranch seemed for a long time the go-to place for anyone in the 'mobile/Mac' world. With their books and bootcamps Big Nerd Ranch established something great that simple wasn't there before. For a while Big Nerd Ranch was one of the best places to work with brilliant minds around and a great working/life balance. These times seem to be gone, with changes in management, staff and culture, they made their move to become a company that's below average in all points. With layoffs happening, reduction of PTO and less and less benefits they make their way towards the usual soul sucking company that everyone knows and hates. Most of those brilliant minds that made this company what it was, left within the last 10-15 months and those who are left, are already looking for a new job. Management still doesn't care about this too much and the right moves to help improve the situation are actively avoided. Career opportunities are almost non existent as changes aren't happening on a regular schedule or in a transparent way. Salaries are below market value.
