Pros

Average level of job competence at BlackRock seemed higher than at many other organisations I had worked, from who it was possible to learn a lot As a company, it had strong products across all major asset classes - bonds, equities, real estate and alternatives Senior management actually understand investing in financial markets, unlike many asset managers. This focus is reflected throughout the organisation

Cons

Seemed to be a perpetual disconnect between IT and the business Didn't seem to be good communication between certain groups and teams Integration of product groups which had been structurally separate seemed slow The UK business (ex MLIM) didn't seem to mesh all that whole-heartedly with the BlackRock culture

Pros

Everyone is expected to roll their sleeves up and get their hands dirty. Hands-on environment allows the opportunity to learn a lot.

Cons

I found co-workers less than willing to show a new colleague the ropes, more like "here's where you can start to look" or "here's someone else you can ask about that".

Pros

Very competitive pay versus other companies in DE. Surrounded by very knowledgable colleagues. But many are two faced. Most people act like your friends but everyone is out to step all over you in order to get ahead.

Cons

YOu will have to say goodbye to your family. Once you join blackrock you will have absolutely NO work/life balance. Just get ready to sacrifice the next 5 - 10 years of your life and work 12 hour days. During interview they will avoid this question about "how many hours/day will you work?" Once you come on board its leave at 8pm and come in 8am or else. Stay away from Holiday.
