Pros

Still have some benefits like food and snacks, pets in office and matching 401ks. There are people working here who are passionate and want to help each other and working towards a mission, whatever that is. Senior management have tried their best to keep the ship afloat and keep the team morale high but, it is clear that it's best days are behind it.

Cons

As is usual with companies in their death throes, there is intense pressure to do a lot of things and people scrambling to meet unrealistic deadlines. It should be clear to everyone involved by now that this is a lost cause. The strategy (if ever there was any!) has not worked for both business and technology. The constant flip-flop on the direction of firm over the last 3 years has left most demoralized and exhausted. Once open culture has given way to more powerpoints and less information with strict need to know basis. Like most corporates being busy is taken as a sign of being productive. Oh and there is more training and compliance stuff to do now. To be honest, roboadvisors are no longer the hottest tech trend. There is one being opened every quarter and the market is shrinking rapidly along with margins. Blackrock as a company takes a lot pride in it's culture but how they will assimilate successfully with something so 180 degrees apart is beyond me. I wish them best of luck,I guess they will be needing a lot of it. I jut hope that don't make scapegoats out of lower level people and blame them for the this turn of events. BTW the 5 star reviews are not really true.

Pros

Has a good team dynamic.

Cons

-Your manager might be nice and understanding, but skip-level and top-level managers do not care about your well-being. -If you take maternity leave or require postpartum accommodation and you are not a Director+ level, you will be penalized. Your bonus and salary will be negatively impacted. It will delay any promotion that you have in the running. -Upper management does not care about you or your baby's health. If you try to work from home, it will go through a form process but then end up rejected. If your baby can't take a bottle, you'll need to choose between nursing your baby or working. Working moms - BEWARE!!! -No office party or food. They are really stingy, especially post-pandemic. They even ask you to bring your own mug if you want to drink water. They make it seem as if should be thankful you can actually drink filtered water there.

Extremely toxic culture

Pros

-Benefits: decent, but by no means best in the industry. -Resume building: Blackrock is a recognizable and respected company (depending on who you ask). -Systems: Aladdin is a powerful tool used across many firms in the industry. It’s good experience and helpful to know for future job opportunities.

Cons

-Culture: Very negative, toxic place to work. People are overworked, underpaid, and downright miserable. Majority of the staff are not willing to help. You can’t ask a question without being belittled or made to feel incompetent. Tons if workplace drama. Managers crying at their desks after being yelled at in meetings. Cursing, name-calling, bullying are all very present here. The least supportive environment in which I have ever worked. -Return to Office policy: 4 days in, 1 day WFH (currently). Constant rumors flying about returning to 5 days. Your days are tracked by badge swipes into the building and everyone tries to find loopholes around it, but upper management knows and will call you out to your manager. -Pay: subpar and there is no bargaining power with such a large company. Whether you are hired with 10 years of experience or 0, the pay will be the same. Annual raise ranges from 1.7%-2% (confirmed with multiple employees, not just me). -Hours: long hours (in office) and pressure from everyone to stay late. Made to feel guilty for prioritizing work/life balance. -Flexible Time Off policy: advertised as “unlimited PTO days” but if you take more than your colleagues, you will be reprimanded for it come year-end reviews. -Layoffs: 3 or 4 rounds of layoffs in the last 2 years. There is little job security. Ruthless process.
