      A great firm with challenging work, smart co-workers, good pay

      Pros

      BlackRock hires at the best schools, exposes its employees to real issues for solution and will pay well for performance. The national and global footprint provides the potential for some interesting transfer locations.

      Cons

      Much too much time in meetings/video-conferences! Then manager personality and non-business issues intrude into these meetings, leading to a reluctance to speak up and contribute to the "crowd-sourcing" that is supposed to be the point to the number of meeting participants to begin with.

      Pros

      For top performers, the money the money is good, and there are a good number of top performers and talented people. Opportunity to work on some game changing initiatives even at a junior level.

      Cons

      Bureaucracy is stifling. Solve something in an afternoon, and spend 3 years on a roadshow getting everyone and their mother to sign on an commit resources. Talent pool quality has dipped quite a bit over the last 3-5 years, and the culture of excellence has become one of "mediocrity then move one".

      Cannot think of any opportunities for growth, though the work-life balance is okay.

      Cons

      The company does not value its employees. There is subtle discrimination among employees. No transparency from the upper management. Promotions are all politically driven.
